Writing a useful 3D printing brief for your business

A useful inquiry does not need to be a complicated technical document. It needs to explain the part’s purpose and how you will check it. That gives the workshop a clear starting point for a prototype or small batch.

Send DECORDS 3D the part’s purpose, model or sketch, dimensions, quantity and required receipt date. Include its working conditions and the measurements on which its function depends. If a prototype comes before a batch, explain what the first sample needs to demonstrate. Our Tallinn workshop agrees modeling, printing and the available handover method as separate parts of the request.

Begin with one clear explanation of why your business needs the part. It might position a workpiece, hold a cable or show a proposed product shape at a meeting. Describe the real operation so the workshop understands the action and its constraints. If a similar item is already in use, send a photograph and explain the problem the new version should address.

Provide contact and mating dimensions as well as the overall size. These might include holes, mounting distances, seating faces or the space inside an enclosure. If a measurement is approximate, say so and show where it came from. A simple marked sketch and a photograph beside a ruler help communicate the geometry, while written numerical values keep the critical measurements unambiguous.

The website estimate accepts STL or OBJ files up to 20 MB and 250,000 triangles. Export the required version from other design software and check its dimensions after upload. If you send several files, explain whether they describe separate components or alternative versions of one object. Keep one approved version after a sample check so repeat orders and later revisions refer to the same design.

Material selection depends on load, heat, sunlight and any need for flexibility. DECORDS 3D offers PLA, PETG, ASA and TPU for FDM printing, so explain those conditions before making the final choice. If color matters for a presentation or company process, state the required shade and whether a substitute is acceptable. When requirements are still developing, describe the situation plainly so the important questions can be resolved before ordering.

State how many items are needed for the first check and how many might follow. A prototype lets you assess position, handling and connections before the rest are made. Agree how you will report the results and which changes will need a revised model or estimate. This is especially useful when a new part has to join an existing workflow that cannot be assessed from a screen image alone.

Explain the actions that will show whether the item suits you instead of simply asking for good quality. It may need to fit an existing location, contain a particular object or leave a fixing accessible. State any numerical tolerance before agreement and discuss whether the selected process can achieve it. Agreeing the check separates dimensional requirements from expectations about color, surface and convenience, giving both sides a shared understanding of the result.

The DECORDS 3D calculator estimates printing from dimensions, material, size tier and quantity. Modeling and delivery are separate, while the usual production estimate is 2 to 5 days after approval and payment. For an exhibition, meeting or operational launch, give the date the part needs to arrive and allow time for a sample. Urgent manufacture and additional work need confirmation before the project relies on them.

Use the project request form or email 3dprint@decords.com with the files and a contact person. Include company details needed for the invoice and a convenient way to clarify questions. Finished work can be collected at Madara 33/1, S1, Tallinn, or delivered by an available method. Describing the purpose, source information and checking process in advance makes the manufacturing discussion concrete and helps establish a suitable proposal for your business.
