3D modeling when you do not have a printable file

A photograph or sketch is a useful starting point, but a printable part also needs dimensions and a clear purpose. Send your reference images, measurements and requirements. We assess the modeling work and agree its price and deadline separately from printing.

A printable model from a sketch, photograph and dimensions

Modeling is useful for a replacement plastic part, a new bracket or housing, or a change to an existing shape. We focus on models intended for FDM printing. A photo shows appearance; measurements establish size, hole positions and interfaces.

What to include in a modeling request

  1. Photos or a sketch from several sides, including the place where the part will fit.
  2. Overall width, length and height, units, and critical hole, mounting and mating dimensions.
  3. The purpose of the part: loads, movement, temperature, moisture and sunlight exposure.
  4. Required quantity and preferred date. For a repeat job, include the previous order number.

Agree the model before printing

We review the task and quote modeling separately. The scope, deliverable files, permitted use, revisions and timing are agreed before work starts. A print quote alone does not promise a parametric CAD source file.

Start with a test part

For a new design, print one sample to check fit and function before a full batch. Model changes and reprints are agreed separately. Printing usually takes 2–5 days after approval and payment; modeling and transit require additional time.

The modeling and printing quotes specify separate scopes and costs. Confirm the measurements, material and delivery requirements before accepting the work.

Questions before ordering 3D printing

Can you create a model from a photograph?

We can assess modeling from photos or a sketch together with measurements. A single photograph without dimensions does not establish the correct size or fit. Modeling is quoted separately.

How large can my part be?

The standard calculation covers up to 250 × 250 × 250 mm. Larger parts require an orientation and equipment check. Dimensions above 340 mm need separate confirmation.

How soon will my order be ready?

Allow 2–5 days for production, usually 3, after approval and payment. Modeling and shipping are additional. One-day urgent work is only available by prior agreement.
