Why identical parts cost less in a batch

One preparation charge covers the order, with printing discounts at 10, 50 and 100 parts. The useful comparison is the complete price per part.

The short answer

For an identical model, the average cost per part can fall because preparation is shared and printing receives a quantity discount: 5% from 10 parts, 10% from 50 and 15% from 100. The percentage does not apply to preparation or delivery.

The work that is paid for once

Before an order can be printed, its information must be received, the file checked and the parameters agreed. With identical copies using the same settings, that preparation is not treated as a separate order for every part. The calculator adds the €4.50 preparation charge once to the order.

The full batch costs more than a single part, but the average price usually falls. This assumes one model, one material and agreed settings. Different designs, individual changes to each copy or additional operations need their own assessment. A box of unrelated files is not automatically one identical batch.

The quantity discounts at DECORDS

The calculator applies 5% off printing from 10 parts, 10% from 50 and 15% from 100. Change the quantity to see the relevant threshold applied automatically. The preparation charge and selected delivery are added separately and are not reduced by that percentage.

The printing discount and the average total per part are different figures. Sharing preparation across more copies also changes the average. Minimum pricing and rounding to euro cents affect the result too. Compare complete totals in the order calculator, rather than subtracting a percentage from an earlier invoice.

Compare the same PLA model at different quantities

The table below uses the same pricing code as the order form. It compares an identical model with outside dimensions of 10 × 10 × 10 cm in the standard tier. Preparation and Estonian domestic VAT are included; delivery is excluded. The average per part is rounded to cents.

These figures explain the calculation. They are not a ready-made offer for every object that looks similar. Upload your STL or OBJ, retain the dimensions you need and compare quantities of 1, 10, 50 and 100. The estimate will then relate to your model rather than someone else’s geometry.

When one sample should come first

If the part connects to another item, check the fit before ordering a series. An incorrect hole diameter or mounting position will be repeated in every copy. A sample lets you check the shape, material and agreed dimensions while changes are still relatively straightforward.

An indoor decorative object may need a simpler review than a new functional assembly. Functional prototypes should be tested under their expected conditions. Our guide to 3D printing accuracy and fit explains which dimensions are useful to send before a batch.

Repeating a part that worked well

Use the repeat-order form and include the previous reference, new quantity and any changes. We check the saved details and confirm the current parameters. If the source file is retained, you may not need to upload it again.

State what should remain unchanged: dimensions, material, color and purpose. Tell us if the new application has a different load or installation environment. Matching the appearance of an earlier part and retaining its expected behavior both depend on a clear description of the new order.

Common questions

Is there a percentage discount for two parts?

The percentage discount starts at 10 parts. Below that threshold, the same preparation charge is still shared across the order, so the average total can fall.

Do different models qualify as one batch?

The automatic estimate covers identical copies of the selected model. For several different files, send a description so the contents and terms of the batch can be agreed.

BEFORE YOUR FIRST ORDER

Find out what your model will cost.

Upload an STL or OBJ. If you do not have a file, send photos, a sketch and measurements. Modeling and printing are quoted separately.
