3D printing for student projects in Tallinn and Estonia

A student project often becomes clearer when you can show it at its real size and handle it. First decide what the physical sample needs to demonstrate. That gives the workshop a useful brief without making the request unnecessarily complicated.

DECORDS 3D in Tallinn reviews FDM printing requests for student models, prototypes and individual plastic parts. Send the model, dimensions, quantity and an explanation of what the sample needs to show. Upload a ready STL or OBJ to the calculator, or request a separate modeling assessment if no file exists. Production, any model revisions and handover are agreed before work begins.

Start with what the teacher or project participants should learn from the physical object. One project may only need to show the overall form, while another needs a connection or moving feature checked. This helps establish the necessary detail and which parts need making. For group work, agree a shared brief and one contact person before approaching the workshop.

Provide the sample’s actual dimensions even if the project already specifies a scale. After uploading, check that the viewer’s measurements match your intention and chosen units. The object needs to fit the demonstration space and remain practical to transport. If the complete model is too large, discuss the possibility of separate sections before finalizing the request.

The calculator accepts STL or OBJ up to 20 MB and 250,000 triangles. Export the required version from other formats and check the uploaded result. The Prusa guide to corrupted models explains general issues with damaged geometry. If a file fails validation, describe the problem in the inquiry so any model preparation can be assessed separately.

Explain which surfaces will be visible during the presentation and which features must be recognizable from a distance. Discuss very small details separately, because reducing the entire model can make them less useful. Show an image of the intended composition and explain the role of each element. Agree the expected surface, color and any later finishing before the sample is manufactured.

DECORDS 3D offers PLA, PETG, ASA and TPU for FDM printing. Describe whether the sample needs to stay rigid, bend or connect to another object during use. Say clearly when the purpose is only to demonstrate a visual form. Material suitability and available colors are checked for the particular design, so make the final choice alongside the description of its intended use.

Compare options in the website calculator using the same dimensions and quantity. The estimate uses the outer bounding box, material and size tier rather than plastic consumption calculated by a slicer. Preparation is included in the minimum order, while modeling and delivery are separate. If the budget is limited, state the amount and essential features so simplification can be discussed without losing the demonstration’s purpose.

Give the date when you need the sample in hand with the first inquiry. Production is normally estimated at 2 to 5 days after model approval and payment, usually around 3 days. Modeling, a trial part and transport add time to that stage. Urgent work needs separate agreement, so leave room for checking the result and making any necessary changes before the presentation.

Upload a ready file on the website, or send photographs, sketches and explanations through the modeling form. You can also describe the project’s aim and intended result by email to 3dprint@decords.com. Finished work can be collected at Madara 33/1, S1, Tallinn, or sent by an available delivery method. Check the sample in your demonstration and keep the approved model if another copy may be needed.
